3. International Day for Women in Diplomacy (2023 and 2026)
The International Day of Women in Diplomacy is observed annually on June 24th to honor women's contributions to global peace and development through diplomacy, emphasizing the significance of women's involvement in foreign relations and foreign affairs. The relevance of this commemoration is to draw attention to the potentials of women in diplomacy, emphasize the importance of women's engagements, and promote a gender perspective in foreign policy. The day also highlights the disparity in women's underrepresentation in foreign relations, aiming to close the gender gap and address the structural barriers preventing women from reaching senior diplomatic roles. The day was first established in 2022, and since its inception in 2023, WAN-NET has marked this occasion with capacity building programs, initiatives and engagements for female diplomats.
